This guidance is not a diagnosis; a definitive assessment is made through examination and the necessary tests.

How does the Symptom Pathfinder work?

Urological symptoms often resemble one another: frequent urination may point to prostate enlargement, overactive bladder or a urinary tract infection. The pathfinder narrows down your symptom in the order area → symptom → suggestion and directs you to the relevant treatment pages, so you come to your examination better informed.

  1. Choose an area: urinary and prostate, kidney and stones, sexual health, infertility, suspected cancer or pediatric urology.
  2. Select your symptom: choose the symptom that best describes yours.
  3. Review the suggestions: read the related treatment and information pages; if you wish, request an appointment from the same screen.

When you should seek care without waiting

If any of the following applies to you, go to the nearest emergency department without waiting for the pathfinder:

  • Complete inability to urinate and increasing fullness in the abdomen
  • Flank pain with fever and chills
  • Sudden severe pain or swelling in the testicle
  • Urine with clots or heavy bleeding

Other patient tools

You can use the IPSS prostate symptom test to measure the severity of your symptoms, and the kidney stone size and prostate size scales to understand stone and prostate sizes. All tools are on the Patient Tools page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the pathfinder's result a diagnosis?
No. The pathfinder only directs you to information pages related to your symptom. A definitive assessment is made through examination and the necessary tests.
What should I do after seeing the result?
Reading the information on the suggested pages and coming to your examination with notes on when your symptoms started, how often they occur and the medications you take makes the assessment easier.
What should I do if I have more than one symptom?
You can start with the symptom that bothers you most, then come back and explore the other areas. At the examination, we assess all your symptoms together.
Can I use it for my child?
Yes. The "Children" area covers pediatric urology topics such as undescended testicle, circumcision, vesicoureteral reflux and bedwetting.
