Elevated PSA and MRI-Fusion Prostate Biopsy

What is the PSA test?
Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) is an enzyme produced in the prostate, an organ found in men, that regulates the consistency of semen.
Only a very small part of the PSA produced circulates in the blood. In conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate infections and prostate cancer, PSA passes into the blood in varying amounts.
The PSA level in the blood and changes in this level can give an idea about the nature of prostate diseases.
Targeted MRI-fusion prostate biopsy is a method that uses advanced devices and software to detect areas in the prostate suspicious for cancer and allows biopsies to be taken from these areas with millimetric precision.
With this method, cancer foci can be detected with higher accuracy, and the need for repeat biopsies may be reduced.
